The Howard Welsh Most Improved Player Award is conducted during the final semester of group training, September to November, and is in memory of Howard Welsh, who was the resident coach at the Strathdale Park Tennis Club for over 15 years. Howard Welsh was also President and co-ordinator of junior pennant teams and tournaments for the tennis club.
Howard Welsh was my coach and offered me a position as assistant coach at the Strathdale Park Tennis Club. When Howard retired I was fortunate to be appointed as the resident coach for the Strathdale Tennis Club. Howard Welsh was my mentor, and he gave me the confidence to progress and develop my coaching philosphies. I am forever indebted to Howard Welsh for the opportunity he gave me to become a qualified coach.
